Every source a variant document is built from. Record counts were read from the live indices on 12 October 2026.
Weekly sampling operated by IPSP. One run received, 14 FASTQ files, 33.1 million reads.

Clade definitions. A clade is stored with the dataset version that assigned it.
oip-discovery-nextclade · 96 versions
Published influenza sequences, used to place a variant against the world.
oip-discovery-ncbi-virus · 317,354 records
Second reference corpus. Carries the hash that decides an exact match.

Wastewater carries the influenza shed by a whole catchment. One deposit holds several lineages at once, so a sample yields several variants rather than one genome, and each carries its own intra-sample frequency.
The rows shown are illustrative. The first SURVIVAX run, 31 August 2026, holds 6 to 1,216 influenza reads per sample out of 1 to 4.6 million. HA reaches a usable depth on none of the 14 samples, so no variant can be called yet.
Novelty has four states. Known on an exact sequence match, new on a substitution absent from every record of the clade, undetermined when coverage cannot decide, and known combination when every substitution has been seen before but not together.
Influenza recovered from São Paulo sewage. A sample drawn from a sewer is a pooled one: it carries whatever the whole catchment shed that week, so a single deposit yields several virus lineages rather than one genome. Each sample whose haemagglutinin got a clade call is listed here, with how much of HA was read, because a call made on 4 % of the gene and one made on 84 % do not carry the same weight when choosing a vaccine antigen.
